Barbara Hepworth was a modernist sculptor who created vast abstract works in numerous kinds of materials, exhibited in many outdoor environments. The materiality of her work and the enormity of her sculptures inspired my design choices in the artist catalogue containing select works created throughout her life. I played with the idea of using small text that seemed to take form in a plain background to mimic the form of her sculptures which I exhibited in massive scale compared to the text. Gradients in the line work and the text were used to convey the subtly of light her sculptures would capture, and I arranged the imagery in a way to seem as if one were walking through a gallery exhibition of her work. The overall effect is subtle and elegant, but enormous and impactful, which is also reflected in the horizontal orientation of the book.
