Don Quixote is a classic Spanish novel filled with imagination, heroism, and medieval fighting. For this cover’s redesign, I wanted to capture those unique features. Cutting up and reorganizing construction paper for my backdrop gave a rustic and natural appearance to the book mimicking the journey the heroes take through the Spanish landscape. I combined this with lettering I designed to look like the swords and lances they use in the story. There is an imaginative quality to the way the letters interact with the paper.

Americanah is a contemporary novel about childhood friends finding their way back to each other amidst new countries and discrimination. I chose to abstractly represent this using string I braided together and photographed. The text subtly interacts with the form of the string, and the title is graphical, and hand drawn. The colors represent the Nigerian flag, the origin country of the main characters. The string wraps around the front and back covers playing with the idea of movement, separation, and union.
